“Tropical cyclone – A tropical cyclone is a storm system with a closed circulation
around a center of low pressure, fueled by the heat released when moist air rises and condenses.
The name underscores its origin in the tropics and their cyclonic nature. Tropical cyclones are
distinguished from other cyclonic storms such as nor’easters and polar lows by the heat
mechanism that fuels them, which makes them “warm core” storm systems. Tropical cyclones
form in the oceans if the conditions in the area are favorable, and depending on their strength
and location, there are various terms by which they are called, such as tropical depression,
tropical storm, hurricane and typhoon.”
“Extra tropical cyclones (sometimes called ‘mid-latitude cyclones’ or ‘wave cyclones’),
are low-pressure areas which, along with the anticyclones of high-pressure areas, drive the weather
over much of the Earth. Extra tropical cyclones are capable of producing anything from
cloudiness and mild showers to heavy gales, thunderstorms, blizzards, and tornadoes. These types
of cyclones are defined as large scale (synoptic) low pressure weather systems that occur in
the middle latitudes of the Earth. In contrast with tropical cyclones, extra tropical cyclones
produce rapid changes in temperature and dew point along broad lines, called weather fronts,
about the center of the cyclone.”
“Hurricane is caused by warm and humid air. Hurricanes occur over warm oceans near
the equator. The warmer and humid air above the ocean will rise higher. Causing low pressure
air below and air around which has high pressure, pushing into the low pressure air. The new
air produced is warm and humid and is elevated as well. As the warm air floats continuously,
the water in the air forms clouds and the surrounding air rotates. Clouds and wind that rotate
and intensify are caused by the heat of the ocean and the water which evaporates from
the surface of the ocean. The hurricane will weaken through the ground because it is not
receiving energy from warm ocean water. However, hurricanes move away from the ground
often and causing heavy rain including significant damages before leaving.”
